Legacy does not automatically mean unreliable. Many Advant Master installations continue to control valuable production assets because their applications are stable, their field wiring is known and their operators understand the process. The risk appears when one aging layer becomes difficult to support while the rest of the system remains productive.
Some installed components may have limited availability or lifecycle exposure; verify each exact article number against current ABB lifecycle information. Operator stations may also be tied to an aging software environment, while incomplete backups and long lead times can increase recovery risk. A visually similar board may fit the rack and still be unsuitable because of firmware, electrical, redundancy or termination differences.

The dates describe product history—not a required project sequence—and should be read together with ABB’s Advant Master support and evolution guidance. ABB Master was introduced in 1984 with MasterPiece 200, S100 I/O and MasterView. Advant Master followed in 1992 with AC 410, AC 450 and the S100 platform. S800 remote I/O was launched in 1996, and System 800xA HMI for Advant Master was introduced in 2004. Later projects can introduce AC 800M, System 800xA and selected I/O or network changes in parallel or in stages while verified legacy layers remain in service.

Control Builder A supports Advant Master applications. Backups, databases, graphics, sequences, interlocks, test plans and commissioning ownership must still be reviewed from the installed project.

The most useful starting point is not a product list. It is a decision matrix that connects installed condition, outage tolerance and engineering effort. The matrix below is a screening tool; it does not replace a functional design specification or an ABB lifecycle assessment.

Stable system with adequate support

“AC 800M module” or “S800 I/O card” is not a complete purchasing description. The same family can contain different channel types, voltages, baseplates, revisions and system requirements. A reliable RFQ should allow the supplier to screen the offer against the installed architecture before a quotation is released.
When the plant is stopped, add the purchase-decision timing and the latest acceptable arrival date. When the requirement is planned, identify the site's spare philosophy and whether refurbished or later-revision material requires written engineering approval. These details allow an industrial automation parts supplier to return a commercially useful answer instead of a vague family-level quote.
The following Moore Automation listings illustrate different roles in an ABB evolution project. They are not interchangeable choices. One is a controller kit, another is a legacy-I/O communication bridge, others are S800 I/O modules or termination hardware. The complete article number and installed configuration remain the purchasing baseline.

CI865 is retained here only as a cross-platform Satt I/O example; it is not an Advant Master S100 interface. For Advant Master evolution, CI855, CI856 and CI869 are the more relevant interface families to verify. Procurement should quote the complete installed identity, while engineering approval must account for controller software, communication, I/O behavior, termination, field devices, FAT, loop checks and commissioning ownership.
